The Causes of Social Immobility in the Poor Class
In history, there have been many debates on the subject of poverty and debates about finding a solution to decrease it in the United States. The non-poor, who have actually enjoyed the intentional and unintentional benefits of poverty, have engaged in these debates. They have conducted these debates with only the intention of obtaining more information on the subject, not actually finding a solution for it. In the essays The "Uses of Undeservingness" and "Social Immobility in the Land of Opportunity", authors Mr. Gans and Mr. MacLeod argue that these non-poor will always enjoy the benefits of poverty by labeling the poor as undeserving. This situation results in a social immobility in the poor class, which creates a situation where in the land of opportunities there are fewer opportunities presented to the poor. The non-poor will never take any action politically to find a solution for decreasing poverty because they delight in holding and enjoying the benefit that they receive from labeling the poor.
