One of the most dangerous habits a person can have is smoking. Referring to the book titled Smoking, by Carol Wekesser, One fifth of all deaths in America (415,000 each year) result from smoking related illnesses. Smoking also causes eighty five percent of all lung cancer deaths and contributes to one in five of all newly diagnosed causes of cancer. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control state that more people die from cigarette smoking and the illnesses that it causes than die from AIDS, alcohol, traffic accidents, illicit drugs, murder, and suicide combined.(Wekesser 13)
The main reason people begin to smoke before they reach the age of twenty, is because they give in to peer pressure. Kids feel curious sometimes and might want to try and be cool to see what it is like to smoke. When people first try cigarettes they say that they just smoke sometimes and will not get addicted. In America, about seventeen million people try to quit smoking each year...
