A Choice to Die From
Pain and suffering. As the end of life draws nearer the meaning of those two words are felt more and more often. As the elderly grow weak and begin to live every day in a bed unable to walk, pain and suffering overcome them. Death is closing in, but when will it come? With today's technology life can be lengthened. There is machinery that can breath and pump blood for a human. Technology can slow natural death and prolong life, in turn lengthening the period of pain and suffering. At the same time, though, this elongation of life may prove wise if science can develop a cure or another form of medicine to make the remainder of this particular person's life more bearable. Either way a decision must be made. Should death be freed to take its swift course?..
