Qantas was founded in the Queensland outback in 1920. Registered originally as the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited (QANTAS), we have built a reputation for excellence in safety, operational reliability, engineering and maintenance, and customer service.
Today, Qantas is widely regarded as the world's leading long distance airline and one of the strongest brands in Australia. We operate a fleet of 187 aircraft across a network spanning 142 destinations in 32 countries. We also operate subsidiary businesses including other airlines, and businesses in specialist markets such as Qantas Holidays and Qantas Flight Catering.
The Qantas Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring that Qantas has an appropriate corporate governance structure to ensure the creation and protection of shareholder value. This requires that appropriate accountability and control systems are in place.
The Board endorses each of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) Corporate Governance Council's Principles of Good Corporate Governance and Best Practice Recommendations (ASX Principles) published in March 2003.
