What is Angina?
A paroxysmal (episodic increase) thoracic pain caused most often by myocardial anoxia (an abnormal condition characterized by lack of oxygen ) as a result of a coronary arterial narrowing caused by yellowish plaques of cholesterol, lipids, and cellular debris deposits.
Typical angina is uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or tightening pain in the chest and last from thirty seconds to thirty minutes. This discomfort also may be felt in the neck, jaw, shoulder, arm, and back. Not all types of chest discomforts are related to angina, such as heart burns (acid reflux in the stomach) and lung infections.
There are mainly two types of angina. One is stable angina. Other is unstable angina. Stable angina usually occurs when you climb uphill, eat a heavy meal, expose to very hot or cold weather, react to stress or emotions, drink alcohol, smoke cigarette or exercise heavily. And the chest discomfort is relieved with rest or medication or both...
