There are many different ways to answer the question, why humans are religious? According to James C. Livingston, the answer is, "humans want to be delivered from the loss of meaning, from moral guilt, and from the threat of finitude and fated ness. Humans want to experience the joy and the moral animation accompanying the trust that we live in a spiritual world of moral meaning whose current leads not to death but to life and hope." (13)
In my opinion, religion is a sociological device which is used to protect its people, as well as offering them a common system of any kind of belief which can bring people together. A religion usually teaches a code of morality with an importance on a higher supernatural entity. Religion gives examples and role models for people to follow. The morality of each civilization is defined by their religious beliefs.
