Gandhi was undoubtedly one of the most influential men of our time. He introduced a method of nonviolence and non-cooperation as a means to fight for a just cause instead of utilizing weapons and taking many lives. As one will later see, this unique method of civil disobedience, known as Satyagraha, will prove much more effective then what any acts of violence could ever accomplish. He had a great impact on many men, but he is also rightfully known as the father of India itself. Martin Luther King himself modeled many of his civil rights movements after Gandhi's ideas on nonviolence.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbander, India. Gandhi was born into the third highest caste, or the Viasya caste. The Gandhi's were in the Modh-Bania sub-caste.
