In the novel “A Child Called “It”” the author Dave Pelzer talks about being one of the most severely child abuse victim. The story took place in Daly City, California. The author went on talking about the changes in his family, back in the 1960s he felt like his family was like the “Brady Bunch”. However the frustrations in life took a toll on his family, especially his mother, Catherine Roerva. She became an unstable, alcoholic, who like to torture her son, Dave. Pelzer had to play the role of survival against his mother. His mother no longer consider him her son anymore, but consider him as “it”. Pelzer couldn’t understand how everyone seen the he was being abused such as his father, school officials, his neighbors and the social worker, but yet he was still being abused, no one stop it.
