The general quality of television commercials has been deteriorating in the past few years. The Tootsie Roll and Slinky commercials that I grew up watching have been replaced with commercials about tampons, Valtrex, and Viagra. It seems like no subject, no matter how gross or disgusting is off limits these days. Being a parent, I am terrified that my children are given a daily dose of inappropriate commercials aimed at a much older audience. In my opinion, television commercials should be kept wholesome because of the wide age range of the audience that is watching them. The commercials of today are repulsive and inappropriate to be shown on our public television stations.
When I think of a repulsive commercial, the first thing that "pops" into my mind is the latest Tampax pitch. In this commercial, a young couple is taking a relaxing and romantic boat ride until tragedy strikes. The boat which the couple was riding in suddenly sprang a leak. The man rushed to get the water out of the boat with a bucket, while his female companion simply pulled a tampon out of her purse...
