Ancient Greek art developed and flourished between about 1000 and 31 B.C.
in mainland Greece and in the Greek colonies of the eastern Mediterranean,
Southern Italy, Sicily, and the Aegean. Greek painting developed in two channels:
monumental painting and beautiful painting on pottery which depicts murals of red on a black background or black on red. There are many famous sculptors and statues remembered from ancient Greece. Most of the sculptures were carved of limestone and marble. The first statues were influenced by Egyptian sculptors. In early Greek life most of them carved deities and heroes. After the Golden Age, artists began sculpting ordinary people and often depicted the changes that had occurred to the Greeks. There are few undamaged originals of Greek architecture or large sculpture remaining, and no large Greek paintings have survived...
