In "Flowers for Algernon" the author, Daniel Keyes, used several methods to portray Charlie as a character of low intelligence at the beginning of the story. He did this through Charlie's description, Charlie's actions, and Charlie's voice.
Through Charlie's voice you can tell he is not very bright. Throughout the beginning of the story he misspells numerous words. For example, on page 268 he spells the word important as importint. On the same page he also spells the word every as evrey and nothing as nuthing. All of the words I've mentioned are simple words that most children can spell, so for Charlie to misspell them as an adult you can tell there is something wrong with him. Charlie's vocabulary is very weak as well. There are barely any big words in his progress reports. His grammer is not that good either...
