The Use of the Psychological Methods for the Detection of Deception
In modern day law enforcement, there are several different techniques or devices used to detect deception. Some techniques have gained general acceptance, while others are still in the process of being researched to know the accuracy of each technique used. In interrogations, one technique used is the neurolinguistic eye movement theory. I personally believe, if applied correctly, this technique can be accepted throughout the country if training is provided correctly and the information obtained is professionally evaluated.
The neurolinguistic eye movement theory is based on the understanding that each of us process information and communicates thoughts on three different levels. The three different levels are 1) Visual, 2) Auditory, and 3) Kinesic. The language that a person uses reveals at which level they are communicating on. The investigator can then effectively communicate at there level while asking questions. In the visual mode, a person might say, "I see what you are talking about, I'll look into it." In the auditory mode, a person might say, "It sounds to me that we have a serious problem...
