Jay Gatsby is a mysterious character whose story slowly unfolds throughout the novel. ...
Gatsby is a man who completely devoted his life to love. ... “Gatsby bought his house so that Daisy would be just across the bay” (83). Before he was reunited with Daisy, Gatsby would always stand outside and watch the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock. This light symbolized Daisy’s presence, and it was all Gatsby had to hold on to before he actually came into contact with Daisy once again. The green light had a great significance of the past connection between Gatsby and Daisy. Gatsby not only purchased a house across the bay from Daisy, but he held extravagant parties constantly, in hope that Daisy would finally attend one.
