During the earliest period, known as the Paleolithic, human inhabitant hunted or fished for food. This simple, but immensely hard life was estimated to have lasted until 10,000 B.C.E. During that period of time they used tools made of stone and learned to manipulate fire to their advantage. They were constantly migrating in search of food. It is believed that the gathering of nuts and berries for nourishment eventually led to agriculture. Once these people learned to plant foods, maneuver water and the art of animal husbandry they began to build dwellings and settle down. The urgency to move from one place to another was no longer present.
