Dazed and Confused Yet Media Literate

Since 1993 the movie Dazed and Confused has been a cult classic among teenagers. The movie is based on the last day of high school in 1976 and follows the stories of upper-classmen and the incoming freshman. The movie portrays a message of the pressures of being a teenager and how teenagers cope with those pressures. This is a very interesting message because it relates to everybody. Every person in high school always felt some type pressure from parents, friends, or school. However, everyone has different levels of media literacy which was influenced by their experiences during high school which would lead to a different interpretation of the message.
No matter if an individual is in high school or graduated high school everyone is media literate to some degree and could interpret Dazed and Confused completely different. Potter describes media literacy as, "a perspective that we actively use when exposing ourselves to the media in order to interpret the meaning of messages we encounter" (Potter, 2001, p. 4).
