1. What were Edouard Sakiz’s principal responsibilities reguarding RU 486? The big question Mr. Sakiz had to consider is: Will his company sell the RU 486 abortion pill or keep it off the market due to protests by anti-abortion groups and the potential for economically harmful boycotts of its other products? This question has many underlying questions one of which is: Who does a CEO/manager represent when he /she makes a critical decision like this? For the case of RU 486, Mr. Sakiz would have to consider the stockholders, the management and employees of the company, the customers and the nation. I think his decision explores whether a business must or should take into account the best interests of society or the world at large in making such a decision. The fact that he is given an opportunity to market the product is very dramatic and plays a roll on the world stage. The responsibilities that Sakiz holds is making the right balance between what is ethical and moral and the impact that RU 486 has on the world. He must also consider the power of the drug and what impact would it have in the wrong hands of the third world nation(s). Also included in his list of responsibilities is the impact that it will have on the longevity of the company in the world market if the Roussel Company is known as the marker of the “Death Pill. “ How could he be strategic in light of all the opposition? In addition to all the moral issues he must protect and enhance his own position and personal power in the process.
