It all began in the spring of 1993 when the jet stream dipped into the middle of United States and stayed there. As storms formed, they dumped rain in northern and middle parts of the United States. The soil became drenched, and the water ran off into the streams. Still it continues to rain. The streams carried the water to the Missouri and the Mississippi rivers. Both rivers already flooding, combined just north of St. Louis. The greatest flooding started in July of 1993 and continued thorough August. The Great Midwestern Floods of 1993 affected farmland, homes, utilities, transportation, and businesses in nine mid-western states.
