1. Tennessee Williams' use of symbols/symbolic imagery in the Glass Menagerie.
The "Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams is a great example of using symbolism to describe the characters and their personalities. There are a number of symbols used by the author that help readers to recognize and understand the abstract ideas (concepts).
The name of the play is very symbolic. It represents the whole idea of the play. The "Glass Menagerie" identifies the take-over of reality by illusion. Every character dreams about something. All of them would rather be somewhere else or doing something else instead of being where they are. Amanda always looks back into her past, where she was not more than a belle...
