A. Definition, Goals, and Objectives of the Discipline
When I first entered into the major of health and fitness, I was not really sure what it was about. After being in the major for two years, I am slowly figuring out what my degree will stand for. I would like to do something in a health/fitness related field, but before I can move on I need to define health/fitness. First, I will define health. Health is the dynamic, ever changing process of achieving individual potential in the physical, social, emotional, mental, spiritual and environmental dimensions (Donatelle). Next, I will define fitness. Fitness is the self-directed practice of physical, emotional, and social well-being which promotes optimum performance within the environment (NASPE). As an aspiring health professional I must bring the two definitions together in order to explain what my goals and objectives will be as a health/fitness professional. As a health professional my goals and objectives will be to decrease unnecessary morbidity, enhance quality of life, and reduce health risks (Seehafer)...
