The True Gentleman is the man.
This section of "The True Gentleman" is very important for an array of reasons. It is a very bold opening line, and prepares you for the list of ideas that are given with the rest of the speech. It is important to me that it starts off by telling the reader that if you want to be a gentleman you need to follow the advice it gives. That's important to me because one of my goals of pledging is to come out a better man and make a step from boy to man. I think that John Walter Wayland chose to use gentleman instead of just man because you are not just bettering yourself. Becoming a gentleman makes it necessary to treat everyone in a mature and respectable manner.

Your conduct is very important and one of the easiest parts of your demeanor that you can control. This is because it is in your power and yours alone to care for your fellow man, treat him with respect, and be the first one there when anyone is in need.
