It all started with just a stone, club and then later a bow and arrow. But after that a foot soldier and a knight fought with many weapons from the 1500's to the 1800's. Weapons served for many purposes for a knight and a foot soldier. The thesis that the author is using is, " Foot Soldier and a Knights weapons from the 1500's to the 1800's.
The sword was a standard fighting weapon long before the evolution of the knight. A knight's sword was his most important weapon. The knight found the sword to be an effective weapon in close quarters, and it even developed religious connotations due to its cruciform shape in a society where there was no separation of religion and everyday life--including war. How elaborate the sword was decorated depended upon its owner's wealth, with some of the more intricate ones encrusted with jewels and fine engravings. They sometimes had their coat of arms imprinted on the blade. Some swords had gold or velvet handles and some were so fancy they were used in rituals or ceremonies...
