Volunteering for an organization means setting some time aside for the good of others in need of assistance. In the case of the Best Buddies Organization, a connection is made between two people with and without a developmental disability and helping to build a strong friendship that benefits both people. Best Buddies is dedicated to bringing everyone with mental retardation a better life by creating a one-to-one relationship and providing them with integrated employment and friendship.
I am already part of this wonderful organization and have experienced many good times with my buddy Bobby, who is also a student at my high school. Bobby unfortunately like others in this organization does not have many friends his own age and I would like to see that he makes the most out of this very important time in his life. Bobby lives in a low income household with his guardians The Bederis so he is unable to do many things with them, so it is my job to fill the void. Bobby and I do many things in and out of school, such as going to the local park and taking him to a school sports game. Bobby especially loves to watch airplanes fly by and imitate the noise they make, so taking him to a special air show on a nearby military base was both fulfilling and one of the best times we have ever had together. Bobby is a very
special person and though he may be different on the outside he is a polite and smart kid who is very happy with how this organization has helped him grow.
I make an effort to educate everyone especially my peers at school that people like Bobby just want to fit in and that they have many things to offer to the world...
