The legalization of illegal drugs in America would have significant economic repercussions for decades to come. This is a long debated topic that unfortunately does not get enough of the serious attention it deserves due to the usual characteristics of the largest proponents, drug users. However for any serious discussion to take place one must first clarify that this is not an excuse to give drug dealers carte blanche when it comes to the distribution of illegal narcotics, how ever a serious alternative to lend economic relief from a virtually untapped source. Again to clarify this, I am not in support of the legalization of all drugs; irresponsible heroine use has been linked to the spread several deadly diseases not the least of which is H.I.V., and the short term negative health effects of cocaine and "crack" are far to numerous to ignore. Let us for the sake of this discussion focus only on the one that would be the easiest to transition, marijuana.
