Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth are two well known poets from the Romantic Era. Coleridge and Wordsworth first met one another in 1795. They became rather close friends and published "Lyrical Ballads" together in 1798. Most of the poems are by William Wordsworth. In this book, and throughout their friendship, they both would write poems in response to a poem the other had written. Soon after the book was published, Coleridge and Wordsworth travel to Germany. Upon their return, Coleridge's health starts to fail because he is taking opium to relieve pain from rheumatism. His unhappy marriage also causes him a lot of distress, especially after falling in love with Wordsworth's sister-in-law. Over the years, Coleridge's close relationship with Wordsworth becomes strained. The two poets become friends again, but the highpoint of their friendship is over...
