The title of Tennessee Williams play, Cat on a Hot Tin roof is very significant through out the play itself. The way that I interpret the title is a character having characteristics of a real cat. They are evil, aggressive, and eager to achieve something and they are not looking forward to being stopped. The hot roof is a dilemma that makes them want to jump, but they do not because they have characteristics of a cat. In this play I believe there are three cats, Maggie, Brick, and the couple of Gooper and Mae.
Gooper and Mae are very ambitious; the only reason that they worship Big Daddy is to inherit his estate when he dies. In many occasions they try to undermine Maggie and Brick to make sure that they don't get the estate. An example of this is when it was Big Daddy's birthday and Maggie gave him a present from Brick. Gooper was quick to say "I bet 500 to 50 that Brick don't know what it is" (73). Moments later Mae tells Maggie in front of everyone that she seems surprised; "I don't see how you could be surprised when you bought it yourself at Loewenstein's in Memphis last Saturday"...
