As one reads the book Master and Commander, they are revealed to the wonderful and caring man that Captain Jack Aubrey is to the crew of the H.M.S. Surprise and his wife Sophie. Aubrey is a responsible, faithful, and very fair-minded man, as demonstrated throughout the experiences of the story. He is truly a man that the crew can look up to and admire.
Captain Aubrey proves is faithfulness and loyalty to his crew and his wife. When leaving the Rock of Gibraltar, Jack says that "no man is married south of the Gibraltar" He continues by telling the ship surgeon and close friend Mr. Marturin how he misses Sophie and is constantly on his mind. He speaks of how he hopes to one day have a cottage and horses to share with her...
