Frida Khalo was born July 6, 1907. She lived in Mexico City her whole life in her home known as the Blue House. At the age of six, Frida was stricken with polio. This left her right leg permanently thinner than her left leg. At the age of 18, Frida was involved in a serious bus accident, which left her with a broken spinal column, a broken collarbone, broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and 11 fractures in her right leg. Her foot was also crushed and dislocated; her shoulder was out of joint also. Frida had no choice, but to stay on her back in a hospital bed encased in a plaster cast for a month. Frida's will to live allowed her to make a remarkable recovery. She began painting shortly after the accident because she was bored in bed. This became her life's passion as well as her profession...
