The Effect of catalase on hydrogen peroxide
Aim
To investigate whether orange juice, liver, boiled potato, raw potato and yeast contain catalase.
Hypothesis
I think that the yeast, liver, raw potato and orange juice will contain catalase because the cells are still alive and the enzymes should still be working. However I dont think that the boiled potato will contain any catalase because all the cells are dead and enzymes denatured.
Apparatus
- 5 test tubes
- test tube rack
- white tile
- knife
- glowing splints
- 2 beakers
Chemicals
- orange juice
- yeast
- raw potato
- boiled potato
- liver
- hydrogen peroxide
Method
1. Add 10cm3 of hydrogen peroxide to each of the five test tubes and stand them up on a test tube rack
