Alex Haley Palmer once said, in every conceivable manner, the family is the link to our past, and bridge to our future. This states that we are a direct result of our family and they have an endless impact on our lives whether it is past, present or future. This rings true in the lives of many people. A person's family often plays a large role in the people they are, were, or will become. This very instance was seen in the short story "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner, in which a young woman was domineered by her father who later died and left her looking for something to cling to as a result of their relationship. The way that Emily's father often controlled her actions and held her back from others played a large part in the way Emily's life progressed. Her father determined the course of her life through his controlling nature, which ultimately led her to cling to the men who came into her life after her father's death. The way her father treated her when he was alive eventually led to Emily's strange behavior later in life.
Emily's father was a very domineering man. With her mother gone, and other family members being out of touch, he had been the main person in Emily's life...
