Bell Hooks believes in teaching the whole student and not just his/her brain, to "touch" them; engaging all aspects of their being. I believe we, as a community, suffer a horrible loss because most our teachers, philosophers, professors, managers, co-workers, administrators and decision-makers don't adapt a similar philosophy. Hooks says teaching "serve[s] as a catalyst that calls everyone to become more and more engaged, to become active participants in learning."
