The concept of race has been playing one of the most important roles in the history of the United States. Not only does it have a long history, but it also continues to play a key role in every aspects of life, especially with the criminal justice system. The criminal justice system's policies and practices are affected by definitions of race in many different ways. Although it is illegal and unconstitutional, racial profiling is a key factor in enforcing the laws of the nation, and I think the law enforcement agencies cannot enforce the laws without it.
Racial profiling is when law enforcement agencies, or officers within agencies, focus their attention and enforcement onto particular racial or ethnic groups. Racial profiling remains a subtle and systematically ingrained part of law enforcement activities (Racial Profiling: Prejudice or Protocol). It is an important part of the criminal justice system. The discriminatory act of racial profiling results from stereotypes and assumptions that crimes are mostly committed by minorities and that minorities are most likely to be criminals. The effects of such practices are detrimental, causing unfair treatment and minorities which leads to distrust of authorities and further disparity among people of different races.
