Christians depend on the four gospels for information about Jesus. The other books in the New Testament tell us a great deal about why Jesus was so important to his followers. The only accounts of what he actually said and did are the gospels of Matthew, mark, Luke and John. These four books have a special significance for Christians. Marks gospel is important to Christians because it is one of the four sources of information about the life and teachings of Jesus. Marks gospel is not a biography, but a simple account of the life of a man who lived long ago. The twelve disciples were; Peter, Andrew, James, John, Phillip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James, Thaddeus, Simon and Judas, who actually betrayed Jesus at the last supper.
The word disciple means one who learns and who follows. Mark calls the Disciples Apostles, meaning, "Those who are sent". Jesus had twelve Disciples which was significant as the Jewish nation was based on the twelve tribes of Israel...
