Telemarketing is a paradox; it is one of the world's fastest growing industries; yet at the
same time, no one seems to like it. In a survey in 1990 it stated, 70 percent of Americans
consider telemarketing to be a big nuisance. What many people do not realize is that
telemarketing is a way for companies to communicate with the general public. Being without
telemarketing would be like not having television or internet for companies to advertise their
products. Unfortunately, there are many difficulties of being a telemarketer for instance, having
a professional presentation, staying patient with your customer, and knowing the product and
Company regulations.
To begin with, telemarketer's must have a professional presentation in order to keep the
customer interested in the phone call, and actually want the product. For example, it is always
important to have good first impressions, such as pronunciation of the customer's name and
clarity of the purpose for your call. Also, it is vital for the telemarketer to be comfortable with
the scripting, so they don't sound robotic or monotone. An additional key point is proper phone
courtesy. For example, do not use any slang terms while talking to the customer, always listen to
the customer and never talk over the customer...
