Bleeding:
* Wash hands with soap and wrap with something where blood won't soak through
Washing A Wound If not severely bleeding washing wound helps prevent infection
Wash hands with soap/water, wrap hands in something where blood will not soak through
Rinse injured area with clean water, put soap on moist cloth clean injury and rinse again
DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE MATERIAL OR USE ANTISEPTICS WITHOUT CONSULTING A PHYSICIAN
Apply clean dressing to wound then wash hands.
Seek medical help if matter is embedded in the wound, there is severe bleeding, wound edges do not stay close or the wound involves a vital structure
Direct Pressure Rapid loss of blood should be stopped as quickly as possible
Apply clean dress to the wound
Press down firmly with the palm of the hand
Clean towels, gauze, or clothing can be used as a dressing
If no clean material is available apply pressure directly with the hand
Elevation Sometimes direct pressure alone cannot control the flow of blood from an open wound. Raising an injured limb higher then the heart while continuing to apply pressure will help stop bleeding
Bleeding on head, neck, arm, or leg should be raised above heart level and direct pressure continued
If possibility of a neck injury, DO NOT MOVE THE HEAD
If possibility of fracture, DO NOT MOVE INJRY
DO NOT MOVE AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON
Pressure-Point Technique Pressure point technique may be necessary if direct pressure and elevation are ineffective. The technique consists of applying pressure to major artery at a point between the wound and the heart. It slows the flow of blood to the wound so that clotting can occur. The pressure points most often used to control bleeding are found on the arms and legs. The use of pressure-point technique stops circulation within the entire limb. Stop using the technique as soon as bleeding is under control. For any case of bleeding that cannot be stopped, get medical help immediately.
Internal Bleeding Closed wounds can result in internal bleeding instead of blood loss through skin...
