Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton takes place in the 1950's or 1960's. The story is based on the time period after teenage gang fighting went out of style but was still common. The exact place of the story wasn't really mentioned in the book but it mostly took place in a poor neighborhood of a decent sized town.
A. The generating circumstance of the plot is all of the events that lead to Rusty-James's life falling apart. The fights, the drinking, the smoking, the dating, the partying, and so on finally lead to him losing everything.
