Money is the currency of the world and that currency comes in a paper and coin form. The problem lies in the fact that in objects that are always changing hands the likelihood for germs and bacteria increase exponentially. The hypothesis for our project is the following: Money has a lot of germs, which is well-known, but is it hazardous to our health?
There are numerous steps and functions and research areas that we are looking into as relates to this topic. The research that we ourselves are going to conduct and have conducted thus far is as follows. Taking a variety of money types from various different sources we will be swabbing each form to take whatever bacteria may be on the items and place them in culture plates. We tried to think of a creative way to get the bacteria off of specific dollar bills but in the end just decided to swab them also. We will be using a 1 cm area for swabbing of each and every surface that we take a swab sample from. We are using the culture plates so that we can grow the bacteria that we found on our money samples. We used various materials in this project, such as bacteria plates, cotton swabs, money, agar and the incubation tank in order to get our bacteria to grow...
