Lee Iacocca, the son of Italian immigrants grew up in an upper middle class family in Allentown, Pennsylvania. His father taught his family one major lesson; that America was the land of freedom - the freedom to become anything you wanted to be, if you wanted it bad enough and were willing to work for it. His father managed to build a successful chain of hotdog restaurants. Because of his father's achievements and strong belief in the value of education, Iacocca attended Lehigh University and eventually, Princeton University.
Upon his graduation from Princeton in August 1946, Iacocca began work as an engineer for Ford Motor Company. Through many years of hard work, he was promoted to top management. Although Iacocca was doing very well and could not be happier, the Ford Motor Company was going through hard times. General Motors was well ahead of Ford in sales and innovations. In the late 50's and early 60's, Ford produced cars that just were not selling and were failures in the industry. Iacocca knew something had to be done, and he convinced president and CEO Henry Ford II that he was the man to do it...
