The same way Homer's Odyssey had its Troy, Thomas Moore's Utopia its namesake, and Seinfeld its New York, the Divine Novel of the Apocalypse has Jerusalem. Jerusalem is destined the be the location of the final battle between (surprise!) good and evil in the mythologies of all three great monotheistic faiths, that all three sides watch with uncontrollable anticipation as to what happens next. Thus, they vie for control of the most contested piece of real estate in world history.
Today, it is the Israelis and Palestinians who vie for control of this land. When Israel was founded in 1948, its capital was Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem a divided city. Naturally, the United States established its embassy in Tel Aviv. However, in 1950, Israel decided to live its dream and declare Jerusalem (then a divided city) its capitol. In 1967, Israel, under a seeming miracle defeated the Arab invaders in six days and reunited the torn city. The Israeli leadership realized the time has come to call a united Jerusalem their own again...
