There has been a heated debate recently in the school systems that have stretched all the way to congress; over what type of sexual education program should be taught in classrooms. It seems that America is torn between abstinence-only and comprehensive sex education programs. Conservatives feel that a comprehensive sex education class only encourages teens and young people to have sex. While that in favor of the program argue that abstinence-only classes are unrealistic and ineffective. The comprehensive sexual education program in my opinion is the most effective and should be taught in schools.
Abstinence-only-until marriage programs censor information about contraception and provide no real medical information to young people. Conservative members in congress, who give no real scientific evidence to these programs being effective, encourage these teachings backing them with only religious facts. Supporters blame comprehensive sexual education for increase in teenage sex and pregnancy. I feel that kids have always been having sex and will continue to. In President Bush's most recent State of the Union address he promised to give $273 million for abstinence-only programs...
