Fraud and scams via the Internet
The Internet has revolutionised the way we communicate and provided an environment of infinite information. However, it has also opened the flood gates on new types of electronic fraud and scams that are continuing to plague the online world. Email in particular has provided scam artists with the perfect environment to con inexperienced users globally with little chance of being caught by authorities. This report focuses on the main types of Internet and email fraud, its affects on a global scale and how users can protect themselves.
How does fraudulent activity occur via email?
Fraud and scams via email transmission can occur in many forms. Often victims of these crimes are unaware they've been misled for a long time after the transaction takes place. Fraudulent Internet activity and scams occur when a perpetrator uses the Internet as a tool to deceive a user or organisation for personal gain or for numerous other illegal desires. Often scam artists prey on a victim's lack of awareness and understanding of the online environment.
