Recreation in the Middle Ages varied greatly depending on social or economic status as well as age. The structure of society back then was feudal and with people divided into separate classes and ranks. At the top of the society were the kings, then the nobles, barons, bishops and on down to the peasants. While the nobility had plenty of leisure time and finances available for recreation activity, the peasants weren't afforded that much leisure. They would work most of the time for their lord and spend the remaining time to try to survive themselves.
Some of the recreation activities the nobles would participate in included archery, falconing, hunting, fighting, board games, drinking, and of course promiscuity. Archery was a skill learned as a teenager to practice during leisure. This became very useful to England down the road during the 100 Years' War. Falconing was a hobby where a falcon was used during hunting. Falcons became huge during this time and were considered a symbol of status...
