Her life continued to be lonely and meaningless until the day she died. "The Gathering" is a good novel because it deals with important issues such as the corrupting of power, the value of friendship and love, and how the past can affect the future.
A good novel must have a satisfying climax and resolution. The climax of "The Gathering" is exciting because the five main characters are in danger both mentally and physically. On the day The Binding was to take place, a hurricane storm swept over Cheshunt and kept everyone indoors. The Chain members, except Seth, who was nowhere to be seen, went to the abattoir to complete the process, but bumped into the Kraken and his gangs because The Gathering was in process. During the confrontation, Danny's torch accidentally fell over and lit a timber roof support, which started the fire. The Kraken tried to distract the children by bringing up the awful secrets of their past and things that Lallie warned them about, in hope of making them feel vulnerable. The aspect that made the climax so exciting was the enormous pressure placed on the Chain members to beat the Kraken. Seth was separated from the others and was on the verge of giving up when they brought him back in to finish what they started...
