An individual's growth and development are influenced by a range of factors. Including how needs are satisfied, self esteem and self confidence, peer acceptance and a sense of group belonging, heredity, the environment, a range of social and cultural influences and gender perceptions. This essay will show how all these factors contribute to an individual's growth and development.
Satisfaction of Needs, the extent to which physical, social, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs are met influences development and well being. For example, if someone does not have adequate nourishment he or she will not grow up properly, have the energy to interact with others in physical games or be able to concentrate so as to read and learn. This individual will be very different from someone who has a healthy body, plays sport and enjoys learning and reading.
Self esteem and self confidence are closely related needs of all people. They are affected by a person's abilities and relationships with other people, especially those who are close to him or her, including family members, friends, peers and authority figures. Self esteem and self confidence are enhanced when individuals feel valued by these significant people. When people feel ignored or not valued, their self esteem and self confidence will be damaged
Peer acceptance and group belonging, people want to be liked and accepted by the groups to which they belong...
