In Alice Munro's "oranges and apples," Murray, "the crown prince" (107) of Wally, who is married to Barbara Delaney, a "tall and well developed" (107), came home unexpectedly. And saw Barbara in the backyard wearing a bathing suit, being watched by Victor, the best friend of Murray, from his window in the third floor of the building, just above Murray's store. What changes after the backyard scene? Let us see.
As a result of the backyard scene, Murray's thinking changed. Before the backyard scene Murray used to go to the store everyday, he never thought of anyone negatively. Murray thought of Victor as his best friend. Meanwhile, Barbara was his wife that he trusted; he never thought that Barbara cheated on him. However, after the backyard scene, Murray stopped going to the store a lot, because he didn't want to be below Victor's apartment. He went for long drives in the streets of Wally; he wanted to be alone, thinking about what happened...
