Meaningless Life
Isn't it ironic that trying to find meaning in life is the meaning of life? Whether it is through love, God, religion, peace, etc. finding meaning is the meaning of life. In the dramatic absurdist play, Endgame by Samuel Beckett, the author places four characters in a setting and situations that reveal that they are tryingand failingto find meaning or significance in life. Without meaning, life is nothing more than a "game" and there is really no reason for a person to live.
In Endgame, Beckett uses various situations to show how his characters are searching for the meaning of life. Even though he is not old, the main character, Hamm, is blind and crippled. His friend, Clov, is a young man who Hamm raised from a boy and acted as a father to him. Nagg and Nell are Hamm's parents who live in trash bins. There is great significance in the relationships between the characters...
