Racial Diversity
The United States is considered the melting pot of the world. ... The diversity in our country is so great that it is impossible to identify each and every (nationality a person possesses) kind of persons. Nevertheless, what does the word "diversity" mean? Websters dictionary (defines diversity as )states that diversity is the quality, state, fact, or instance of being different. However, it is infeasible to define such a word because each individual has his or her own definition of diversity. Diversity exists in many aspects such as social, gender, race, and age. Ultimately, when I hear the word "diversity," I tend to think of the racial diversity within our communities and our country. Racial diversity is merely a label given to the existence of the many different races. There are many aspects regarding racial diversity such as racism, multiracial relationships, and race within the media.
Although our country exists as a racially diverse nation, the problem with diversity lies in the acceptance of each other’s differences. ... but is there actually racial equality within our lands? ... Racial groups all have stereotypes and misconceptions about one another. ... Instead of enjoying and celebrating the diversity, we all judge and resent those different from us. The ethnic diversity that surrounds us is often taken for granted. Racial diversity is a beautiful thing that many do not appreciate. ... My parents do not care about the racial background of my friends, but at the same time they do wish that I date within my own race. ... While at school, I receive the positive message of diversity, other influences such as television and the media tell me otherwise. ...
The media does not appear to contribute to the preaching of racial diversity yet it discreetly conveys the message. ... The media does not display the racial diversity that exists in our country. ... Diversity is not a negative term; therefore it should not be used in a negative fashion.
