Hiring Practices for the Construction Industry
All too often, in construction, searching for employee's is taken very lightly. I should emphasize that the content of this paper will be based on the smaller sector of construction, i.e. smaller companies. The much larger corporations take recruitment very serious. Small construction almost has an ideology throughout the whole industry that hiring is important, but their actions don't correspond with their intentions. One could even go as far to say, of middle management, that the attitude is "we are too busy doing real work to focus on hiring methods". It is this attitude that increases the risk of accidents, increases turnover rates, and even, in some cases, can bankrupt a company. The fore mentioned activities will be the subject of this paper. I chose those three activities because I think if employee recruitment were taken more seriously these three major factors could be at a much, much lower percentage, which to upper management translates into dollars...
