Columbia is located in the northern hemisphere of South America. Columbia's land borders are Panama, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. While the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific ocean are its water borders. Columbia was one of three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Columbia in 1830 the other two countries were Ecuador and Venezuela.. The country is fairly big, its size can be compared to slightly less than three times the size of Montana. The climate can be best described as tropical along the coast and eastern plains while much cooler in the highlands. The Andes Mountains extend into the country in three ranges running south to north. In the eastern part of the country it consists of flat grass prairies while jungles and huge rainforests of the great Amazon make up over half of the countries area. The country only consists of 1.9% arable land..
