The Circus Maximus and chariot racing played a large role in Roman entertainment, while also providing lifestyles for its competitors. The people of Rome enjoyed this sport very much and it became a part of their everyday life. As popularity increased for the sport, even more became intrigued by the two-wheeled carriage, pulled by two, four, or six horses.
Chariot racing could indeed be one of the oldest spectator sports of Rome. This event was one of the most popular sports among the Etruscans. The Lucanians of Sicily also took pleasure in chariot racing. These chariots races were associated with funeral games, and in Rome with religious festivals.
