Introduction
Databases are one of the backbone components in the IT world which has enabled the growth and development of technologies. The two main types of databases are Relational and Object Oriented. ...
Relational Databases
Relational databases were developed based “applying the disciplines and structures of mathematics to data management” (Hernandez, 1996). ... The data from relational databases are “expressed by comparing the values stored in these tables” (Bartels). One thing that I learned throughout this course is that relational database tables are “normalized” so data is not repeated. I have used relational databases in creating my home databases which allow for the information to be set in various tables but can be called by using the keys set from the table.
Advantages
The advantages of relational databases are: built-in integrity throughout all levels of the database, data is independent from database application, information is accurate and consistent, and retrieving information is easy.
